More Trouble For Chip Sector, As FormFactor Warns

The signs of weak business conditions in the chip sector continue to mount. Recent sessions have seen Q4 profit warnings from Intel, Texas Instruments, Altera and Lattice Semiconductor. And now, FormFactor joins the list.

FormFactor, which makes wafer probe cards, which are used to test semiconductors, on Tuesday afternoon said it now sees Q4 revenue of $28 million to $31 million, down from previous guidance of $30 million to $34 million.

FormFactor said that the lower than expected revenues are primarily due to the challenging DRAM pricing environment and softening demand for probe cards. The company anticipates that other guidance provided during its third quarter conference call will also be negatively impacted by the current industry environment.

CEO Tom St. Dennis said in a statement that industry conditions have further deteriorated over the course of the past two months resulting in slow demand for our products.

FORM, which in todays regular session fell 21 cents, or 3.7%, to $5.40; in late trading is down another 25 cents, or 4.6%, to $5.15.
