Is Net Neutrality Dead? Comcast Beats FCC In Key Court Ruling

Today, the concept of net neutrality has taken a mammoth hit.

A federal appeals court ruled today that the FCC lacks the authority to require broadband providers to give equal treatment to all Internet traffic on their networks. As The New York Times notes, the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia is a “big victory” for Comcast (CMCSA), which had challenged the Commission’s authority to impost net neutrality rules.

The ruling, if it holds up to any further appeals, would presumably free up Comcast and other service providers to block access to certain kinds of traffic, or give preferential treatment to other traffic. Expects to read reams more about this issue in the weeks ahead.
