Apple: WSJ Says 2 New iPhones Coming; 1 For Verizon Wireless

Apple (AAPL) is working on a new iPhone to debut this summer, and also appears to be working on a CDMA version of the phone that would run on the Verizon Wireless network, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing “people briefed on the matter.”

The iPhone so far has been available in the U.S. only through AT&T, of course. Sprint also operates on a CDMA-based network.

The WSJ says said one of the new phones will be manufactured by Hon Hai Precision, which built previous iPhones; the CDMA version is reportedly to be built by the Pegatron unit of Taiwan’s Asustek.

The story says that Pegatron is supposed to start mass production in September.

No one involved is talking on the record.
