On average, most analysts expect Apple to sell as many as 4 million units of the iPhone this weekend, beating the 1.7 million sold during the debut weekend of the iPhone 4.

The authors cite simply “most estimates” in quoting a range of two to three million units, but cite Yankee Group analyst Carl Howe as predicting 4 million units.

As the doors open at Apple stores on the East Coast, Apple shares are $8.82, or 2%, at $417.26.
