IBM To Buy BigFix; Price Reportedly $400 Million (Updated)

IBM (IBM) today said it has agreed to buy BigFix, an Emeryville, California company that makes corporate software policy control software. Terms were not disclosed.

IBM said in a statement that “BigFix software has built-in intelligence that can identify which devices are not in compliance with corporate IT policies and recommend security fixes and timely software updates to 500,000 machines in a matter of minutes.”

The company, which has more than 200 employees, has more than 700 customers.

Investors in the company include Levensohn Venture Partners, Meritech Capital, Selby Ventures, Split Rock Partners, Thomas Weisel Venture Partners and W Capital.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.

Update: Citing “a person familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg is reporting that the price of the deal was about $400 million.
