Will Walgreen Lower Duane Reade’s Prices?

Will Walgreen (WAG) lower prices at Duane Reade?

It may be a question hanging in the air for many New Yorkers after the larger drug store chain announced this morning it would purchase the smaller outfit for $1.1 billion.

WSJ’s DealJournal grumblesthat pretty much everything will stay the same at Duane Reade after the merger.

But I wonder: since Walgreen seems to have lower prices than Duane Reade on many items, will it pass along savings to the latter after the deal is complete, or will it pocket the difference given Walgreen aims to save $120 million to $130 million annually in costs?
