CNN reported on the dismal state of U.S. financial affairs a couple of months ago on September 20, 2011:
“Our government is utterly broke. There are signs everywhere one looks. Social Security can no longer afford to send us our annual benefit statements. The House can no longer afford its congressional pages. The Pentagon can no longer afford the pension and health care benefits of retired service members. NASA is no longer planning a manned mission to Mars.”
Flash forward four months later and, even with some optimistic signs of economic recovery, things aren't all that much better.
See why the U.S. still risks suffering a worse fate than Europe and what's going on in the stock markets, bond markets, and the debt ceiling debate.
The real tragedy is that we're “doomed if we do and doomed if we don't.” Keep spending the way we are, and we're doomed. But, will things be even worse if we stop spending money like we have been?...
Unfortunately, many experts are saying that very well may be the case...
